Year of the Dragon’s visit to Hing Wah Estate

Hing Wah Estate is an almost 50 years public housing estate in eastern Hong Kong Island.

The 7 “Old Slab” blocks is the home to mostly elderly living there now. They are more likely to face factors such as living alone or the loss of family or friends, and it is more common among them to feel isolated and depressed.

To remind the elderly that Chinese new year is a season full of happiness, our volunteers and the staffs of the sponsor have visited the Estate before the Year of Dragon, our volunteers have brought them the cute little boxes filled with chocolate gold coins and gold nuggets made by them. There were also canned food, fruits, hand sanatizers and lunch boxes donated by the sponsor.

The elderly were delighted receiving our gifts, and we hope our visit had brought happiness and warmth to their heart, reminding them of the love and thoughtfulness that surrounded them.

Little Yellow Flower Foundation 14th Birthday Celebration 2021

It is a commitment when it comes to growing a plant as it does require attention from us like watering, fertilizing and nurturing it. This is just the same as to how our Foundation works and in a blink of an eye, we are now celebrating our 14th year of social work for the children! On 4th June 2021 Little Yellow Flower Foundation’s founders Sinje Lee, Gigi Leung and Valen Hsu gathered together to celebrate virtually by being live on the Foundation’s Facebook and Instagram.

The founders shared about their work and continued to spread love and positive energy vibes to the audiences. We will continue to stay committed and true to the belief of the Foundation in the many more years to come benefitting more children with hopes of being able to build a better future for them.

“Digital Storytellings” : Can I Be Friends With You 2021  (Cantonese version)

” It’s excited when listening to the children passionate and genuine voice! “

The voice acting by the children, their siblings and their parents is a perfect way to broaden their horizons and

to promote their imagination, self confidence and parent-child relationships.

“… giving our children this learning opportunity during pandemic! All kids and their parents enjoy the process!”

The ” Digital Storytellings” is part of little yellow flower foundation’s “Reading Wonderland” program which promotes reading for children and includes the establishment of libraries and donation of books.

Schools were required to be closed under the pandemic and some young learners are isolated in their flats for a long time. With the view to encourage children to connect with others and their community at the time of home staying, a few young volunteers of the Foundation have formed a book club to invite others to read and share books for the benefit of the underprivileged.

The Foundation is hoping that through these initiatives more young volunteers may involve themselves with the good cause and contribute positively to the community.

Written by one of our founder -Valen Hse, voices by the volunteers of Abbie’s Book Club : Little Yellow Flower is passionate and friendly, however she is unable to express herself well, causing many misunderstanding …..

Donation project in Nepal 2020

Little Yellow Flower Charity Education Foundation has always been following up closely on the pandemic situation and trying to learn the needs of different places.

As we face the rapid spread of COVID-19 in the world, emergency lockdown has happened in a lot of places. In order to fight with such a harsh situation….some schools are closed and people are working from home. It is a difficult time for many companies, big or small.

We worry about our families, children and of course, about our jobs. No doubt, it is a crisis we are all  going through now, but we believe, we have to all work together , encourage each other, to pass around positive energy and provide our help to others who need as well.

In the meantime, we also appreciate our friends out there deeply, with their generous donations, so we can fulfil some supporting projects in the different places.

We are glad to share some of the projects we have done so far in different places :

Nepal has been under lockdown for 2 months and now people there are facing unemployment and losing their income. The issues of starvation and poverty became more serious. Some laborers can’t even provide their families basic meals.

On Mother’s day, with the help from local organization Himalayan Ray and Heartbeat, we have distributed 500 packages of food in Bhaktapur District, which includes: rice, lentil ( a local food) , dhal, potato, soy beans, a variety of vegetables and hand soaps.

For now we have managed to pass these packages at the Bhaktapur District:

BM ( Bhaktapur Municipality), CM ( Changu Narayan Municipality), SM ( Suryabinayak Municipality) and Ward No: 10 in Kathmandu: Buddhamarga Tole (slum community).

We hope that we can continue our support to help them pass through this hard time.
No matter where we all are, let’s fight through these together!

Stay safe , stay healthy.

P.S: We would like to thank the local volunteers who have helped to cook for 400 people on Mother’s Day as well.

New Generation Parents Support Program 2020

Early June, Little Yellow Flower Education Foundation has donated some Lego sets, face masks and picture books to some children and parents during the epidemic in Hong Kong allowing them to continue to have fun and learn new things.

This project mainly provide support services for parents aged 24 or below, unmarried young mothers especially for those with children aged 3 and below. The territory focussed is mainly in Yuen Long and Tuen Mun, Hong Kong.

This program aims to cultivate healthy  relationships between the young couples/partners and enabling their young children to grow up in a loving environment.

During the epidemic period, a lot of children are not able to step out of the house. Some are residing in very remote area and with the constant worry of financial burden, they are not able to purchase enough masks thus the children are not able to resume classes.

Feeling depressed at home, came along some happy vibes where some received a small box of Lego set. The adults and children excitedly expressed “Ah, Really Attractive! So considerate!”.

Furthermore, some families received Little Yellow Flower’s picture books. We believe this small act has brought some colours and meaning into their life during this difficult period.

Fight and overcome the difficult Period of Covid 2020

The Singapore government has done a series of protection procedures to reduce the risks of community spread since the COVID-19 outbreak.

To further control the domestic epidemic situation, the government suspended the operation of all non-essential services and places in the community. All the residents need to stay home unless it is for very important matters. Supermarkets are allowed to open, food courts and restaurants can only do takeaway and delivery services.

In some cases, the symptoms at the early stage of COVID-19 are not obvious and some do not even have any symptoms so in Singapore, everyone had to follow the rules of social distancing and wearing a mask in the public to avoid the virus from spreading. People are not used to these rules and there were some people who refused to cooperate. Fortunately there are social distancing ambassadors to remind the people about the importance of social distancing, though some of them might get offended because there are people who do not know of their well intention at the beginning. During the most severe time of the outbreak, despite the danger, these social distancing ambassadors were still on duty to ensure the safety of other people.

There are so many unsung heroes who have worked very hard to protect the citizens and the community and we would sincerely want to thank all the doctors, nurses, volunteers, social distancing ambassadors and the countless people at the front line who worked so hard to protect us and make sure the community can continue running.

In May and June, we distributed 500 sets of goodie bags to these unsung heroes‘ children where each bag contained different kinds of vitamins, children reusable masks, toys and milk powder.

We also would like to thank for all the kind support from our friends in sponsoring all the items in the goodie bags:

Dr Yang Linqi, Ocean Health, Stephen Ooi & Lee Hong Yi & Low Yae Foong; Sunward Pharmaceutical Sdn Bhd, Evelyn & family, Flora Lee, Stefanie Sun, Weizhen, Khai Ng
